(тж. on, upon); прервать (разговор) "But I was there" Jane broke in. в) дрессировать; укрощать; объезжать (лошадей); дисциплинировать When horses are about six months old, they have to he broken in. Two weeks in the new office should be enough to break you in. г) разнашивать (одежду, обувь), обкатывать (новую автомашину) I'm wearing my new boots around the house to break them in. Don't drive the new car too fast, I'm still breaking it in....

    • carve up а) coll. разделять что-л. Europe was carved up after World War I. б) coll. делить (деньги) The thieves carved up the profit from the robbery. в) sl. намеренно ранить кого-л. The teacher's severe words pinned the children's ears back....

The river runs down to the sea. б) сбить; столкнуться с чем-л., кем-л. повредив (что-л.) или ранив (кого-л.) The poor boy has been run down by a bus. Mary broke (forth) into laughter. в) to break into smb.'s time отнять у кого-л. время г) прервать (разговор) The children broke into the conversation with demandsfor attention. My aunt's regular visits break into my weekend. д) неожиданно начинать (действие) The men broke into a run. As I grew more afraid, I broke into a cold sweat. е) неохотно использовать часть чего-л. (денег и т.п.) I shall have to break into my savings to pay for the holiday. I don't want to break into a L10 note unless I really have to. I keep a small supply of tinned food in the bottom cupboard, to be broken into only in case of real need....

    • put out а) выгонять; удалять, устранять; убирать; Two families who could not pay the rent were put out onto the street. б) выкладывать (вещи); вывешивать (белье, флаг и т.п.); If it turns fine, I shall put the washing out. в) вытянуть, высовывать; Put your hand out, I have a surprise for you. It's rude to put out your tongue at people. г) давать побеги (о растении) The bush has put out some new branches. д) вывихнуть (плечо и т.п.)
